Just a century ago, roughly 200,000 lions roamed across Africa. Today, fewer than 40,000 remain in the wild. 

Several major challenges are driving this dramatic decline, including poaching, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict.  

Without continued conservation efforts, their future remains uncertain. 

WHY LIONS MATTER 

Lions are apex predators, meaning they sit at the very top of the food chain and play a critical role in maintaining balanced ecosystems. 

When lions disappear, ecosystems can quickly fall out of balance. Prey populations grow unchecked, vegetation can be overgrazed, and biodiversity declines. 

Protecting lions helps safeguard entire landscapes and wildlife communities.
